With all the kiddos going back to school, it’s time for the adults to do a little continuing education as well! I’ve been doing some research and I think I’ve found some good studies to share with you. So I’m launching two classes, one on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and the other on Sunday mornings at 11:15 a.m., right after the morning Worship Service.
The Wednesday morning class (10:00 a.m. beginning September 19th) will begin with three sessions on Genesis: Session 1 considers what might be called an introduction to Genesis (chapters 1 – 11); Session 2 explores the stories of Abraham and Sarah (chapters 12 – 23); and Session 3 centers on Joseph and God’s providential care of him (chapters 37 – 50). That will be followed by a two session study on Revelation: Session 1 is designed to help participants understand when and why Revelation was written, and why it is still relevant to the church today; Session 2 acquaints participants with the major movements in the book of Revelation, and highlight John’s contrasts between earth and heaven, reframing his reader’s perception of and relationship to their everyday life.
No materials will be needed for this class (hand-outs will be provided).
The Sunday morning class (11:15 a.m. beginning September 23rd) will be a seven week discussion group study. Each session is introduced by a 7 to 8 minute animated video (DVD) featuring leading contemporary Christian voices exploring key topics in Christianity: “God” (Brian McLaren), “Jesus: The Revolution of Love” (Mark Scandrette); “Cross: Where God is” (Nadia Bolz-Weber); “Salvation: Abundant Life Now” (Shane Hipps); “Religion: Spirituality is Not Enough” (Lillian Daniel); “Church: An Imperfect Family” (Bruce Reyes-Chow); and finally, “Bible: A Book Like No Other” (Lauren Winner).
Participants of this group will each receive a Journal for their own use. Suggested donation to cover the expense of the Journal is $15.
We sincerely hope you will take advantage of these Adult Education opportunities to grow in your understanding of the Bible and/or your own faith development.
Rev. Tom will be leading both classes. Please contact the office to sign up for classes.
See you there!
